Alfred Coffee

Ten unique locations in, it was time for the collaboration between Studio Sucio and Alfred Coffee to establish a design core for the growing brand. The Sherman Oaks location was built to set the design standard, with flexibility to layer on unique elements as the brand continues it’s trip out into the big wide world. The vibrant base is set with black and white striped awnings, floral wallpaper; a dream collaboration with Venturi Scott Brown who granted license for the classic Grandmother Pattern to be blown up huge, the back painted glass menu in juicy colors, with pairs of glass wall sconce lights, grids of ceramic tile, and the Alfred trademarked motto, “But First, Coffee” landing uniquely in each space. In this case, writ large. Added to the recipe is an eco system of sociable banquette seating and shelving built from non-toxic organic dyed fiberboard, raw chipboard, and chairs made in the USA from the Grand Rapids Chair Company. A slam of energetic style to suit the caffeine suppliers of Los Angeles, and soon, the world.

Studio Sucio

Fernando and Leslie shared very similar career paths which intersected at the office of renowned interior designer Kelly Wearstler in Los Angeles, CA. Both began as architects who were interested in too many disciplines to stick to just one. They became co-directors of the studio and worked closely together on a wide variety of projects in various departments. In this hotbed of design they found much in common, not only in their approach to the work at hand, but also in their own individual evolving ideas on design, politics, and culture. They have been involved in hospitality design for many, many years.

They’ve both been called design machines, and neither is afraid to get their hands dirty, get down, and get stuff done.

Hence the name, Studio Sucio.
