In the heart of Bucharest’s Old Town, Origo Coffee enchants visitors with its captivating lofted and exposed timber ceiling, lending a rustic yet contemporary charm to the space. As an added touch of intrigue, an artful hanging display adorns the cafe, creating a unique and inviting atmosphere for patrons to savour their coffee while appreciating the fusion of art and architecture.

Origo Coffee helped put Bucharest on the specialty coffee map and is known for its iconic white coffee cup and pour-over light fixtures.

This AD cafe Bucuresti helped put the Romanian capital on the specialty coffee map

Barista Mihai Panfil opened Origo in 2013. The name Origo is a nod to new beginnings and identity. I wanted something that means the start of the coffee industry here, Panfil says. We are a Latin people, so I took from Latin the word origo – the origin.

The interior is simple, designed to make coffee the focus. White ceramic coffee cups hang from antique wooden ceiling beams over the bar area, which showcases the cafe’s Victoria Arduino Gravitech espresso machine.

Behind the counter, chalkboard walls advertise a simple menu and information about each drink. One chalk panel informs customers that sugar is available upon request, but asks that they try the coffee without it first. Our goal working here, says lead barista Lavinia Toma, is to show people what specialty coffee is, and that it might be a little different than what they are used to.

Origo is a trendy establishment that transitions from a stylish coffee shop during the day to a fashionable cocktail bar at night. With an attractive outdoor terrace and offerings of light snacks, it appeals to both locals and tourists alike. Origo not only serves high-quality brews but also has its own roastery, contributing to the growth of the city’s coffee scene.

Here you can order tasty kacamak, filet americain and pies – a specialty of Origo – good biscotti, chocolate cakes and chocolate delice. Wine, Irish coffee, beer, Ethiopian espresso, lemonade or cappuccino are among the drinks to order.

The knowledgeable staff, modern decor and cosy atmosphere let patrons feel relaxed here at this AD cafe Bucuresti.
